Vidor Police Chief Rod Carroll said a child safety seat and a seat belt helped prevent more serious injuries in a collision Thursday morning that sent an adult a 2-year-old to a hospital.
The crash was about 7:45 a.m. on the eastbound Interstate 10 access road near FM 1132.
Carroll said a passenger van was traveling eastbound on the access road. A Vidor garbage truck was stopped in the outside lane with workers picking up trash cans.
The driver told police that the sun was blinding and they couldn’t see the garbage truck until the last second. The van hit the back of the garbage truck.
The child was in a child safety seat in the passenger spot and the driver was wearing a seatbelt. The two were taken by Acadian Ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont with non-life-threatening injuries.
