It is tough to swallow any loss, especially the first one, but that is what the Bridge City Cardinals must do this week to get ready for another tough opponent in the Liberty Panthers. Coach Dwayne DuBois thinks his Cardinals will rebound, and he knows they have to in order to deal with a much improved Liberty ball club.
DuBois says the Panthers are well coached under Chad Taylor and are much improved over the team he faced last year when he was coaching at Hardin-Jefferson. DuBois informs that the Panthers on offense do multiple things, they run some Slot-T, they get into the Shotgun, and they like to mix things around. Liberty has two good backs in Marquis Redmon and Alex Brown, and those are the guys the Panthers are going to lean on according to DuBois.
Coach DuBois is familiar with the Panthers from last season as they were a district opponent when DuBois was at Hardin Jefferson. DuBois says their base defense is the 4-3 with their bell cow being the middle linebacker and that means the Cardinals will have to give him a lot of attention on every play. DuBois points out that Liberty comes into the game 2-1 after a 35-5 win over Cleveland a district opponent of Bridge City. The coach understands the Panthers have every right to believe they can win this game especially with the Cardinals coming into it after a loss.
Coach DuBois says Bridge City needs to play better offensively to get back on the winning track this week. DuBois admits the Cardinals came into last week’s game a little flat, and he will take the blame for that. This week Bridge City, Coach DuBois states, must improve in offense and the offensive line will need a better game. On defense the Cardinals need to prevent long drives like Lumberton did at least twice last week of 17 and 13 plays that led to touchdowns. DuBois emphasizes the Cardinals will come out more aggressive this week while grabbing the initiative at the start of the game, and they’re going to do that.
