In March a routine traffic stop in Jefferson County led to the arrest of a 34-year-old Orange man after a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper reportedly discovered marijuana, THC vape pens, drug paraphernalia and a handgun. That man was indicted September 30 by a Jefferson County Grand Jury.
According to the DPS report, Trooper Reeves was conducting routine patrol with Sergeant Brewster shortly after midnight on March 14, 2026, when he observed a white Volvo disregard a red traffic light at the intersection of Dowlen Road and Gladys Avenue.
The vehicle was stopped on Gladys Avenue, and the driver was identified as 34 year old Jeffrey Crowder.
While speaking with Crowder, Reeves reported smelling the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Crowder was asked if there was marijuana inside and reportedly admitted that there was.
Sergeant Brewster then observed a small bulge in Crowder’s right sock. According to the report, Crowder removed the item, which officers identified as a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana.
A probable-cause search of the vehicle was conducted. During the search, troopers reportedly found additional marijuana in the sleeper portion of the truck tractor, along with multiple THC vape pens and drug paraphernalia.
Troopers also located a Glock 19 9mm pistol, which was seized as evidence.
The marijuana and drug paraphernalia were submitted to the Houston DPS Crime Laboratory for analysis and weighing. The firearm was placed into evidence pending the disposition of the case.
Crowder was arrested and booked into the Jefferson County Jail on charges of:
- Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 2, 4 grams or more but less than 400 grams
- Possession of Marijuana, more than 2 ounces but less than 4 ounces
- Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon
Crowder was later released from the Jefferson County Jail without further incident.
