Precinct 4 Newton County Constable Howie Wonders, who works in the Deweyville area, has announced that he is resigning as of May 15.
Wonders said he is taking a “corporate job” but wouldn’t elaborate on what it was going to be.
Newton County Commissioners appointed Ryan Williams to fill the rest of Wonders’ term. Wonders won office in 2020 as a write-candidate.
Wonders said, “This decision did not come easy. Serving as your Constable has been one of the greatest honors of my career. I have proudly served this community to the very best of my ability. I’ve been there with some of you during your highest moments and some of you at your lowest, but through it all I have always tried to serve with dignity, respect, and compassion for every citizen and passerby through this county.”
