The opportunity to play a team you lost to in the same season is a dream of many coaches who would love “that second chance.”
The West Orange-Stark Mustangs (10-3) are getting that opportunity but the stakes are higher because the winner will be in the 4AD2 Semifinals.
WOS will be playing Waco LaVega (11-2) Friday night at Woodforest Bank Stadium in Shenandoah, Tx. which is north of Houston on I-45. Kickoff is 7pm.
The first time these two played was also at a neutral site. The game was played in Nacogdoches and it was not a good performance by the Mustangs. LaVega jumped out early and cruised to a 44-20 win. The Pirates rolled up almost 450 yds. of offense while WOS failed to reach 200.
But that was then.
The Mustangs have improved on both sides of the ball and some would say they are peaking at the right time. They’re averaging 400 yds. of offense in their three playoff wins and only Sealy has put up more than 300 yds. against the Mustang D.
WOS is also complimenting the consistent play of RB Khelvy Jefferson. QB Kwalin Dugas had his best game of the season last week and RB Dylan Myers has had some great runs in the postseason.
Both teams are on eight game win streaks. The intangible? The weather. Not ideal conditions but if you ask Coach Hickman, as we did below, he says the weather forecast favors the Mustangs.
KOGT will once again have “live scoring” on our KOGT Facebook page. For some of you that didn’t understand what that meant last week, that means when the score and/or quarter changes, we change the score/quarter. If the score hasn’t changed, the score will stay the same so you won’t need to ask what for an update.
