The marble façade on the front of the Orange County Courthouse is not fixed, but it at least is not going to fall. Scaffolding has been erected to keep the marble in place. Commissioner Barry Burton has worked with county maintenance and engineers to get the marble repaired. Burton said they are not actually working on the marble yet. He added the scaffolding is not to get work done on the marble, but rather to secure the marble and keep it from falling. Now that the marble is secure the process of looking at some options to pay for the repairs is next according to Burton. The Texas Historical Society has some funding available which the county and Burton are researching to see if it could be used for the repair project. Top Deck in Orange County is the company that put up the scaffolding on the front entrance of the courthouse. Engineers determined in May that bolts holding the marble to the courthouse structure have rusted to the point that the marble has pulled away from the building. A rough estimate by the engineers to repair the marble and redo the roof of the courthouse to prevent future rusting of the bolts was between $200,000 and $300,000.
