The Vidor City Council was expected to hire a new city manager Monday night but after a handful of citizens spoke out against the hire, council came out of executive session and decided not to hire Ben Nibarger (above). Vidor Mayor Misty Hart said after the meeting he is no longer in the running for the position.
It’s not known exactly what changed councils mind. Nibarger had been city administrator in New Fairview but council voted to remove him in 2022, just 10 months after giving him a five-year contract. He also served as the assistant city manager in Ennis.
The mayor said they’re not in a hurry to hire a city manager and will continue to interview people. Aleta Cappen continues to serve as interim city manager.
