
(Janice) Karen Ragland Akers passed away peacefully on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Hospice in the Pines in Lufkin, Texas. She resided in Assisted Living in Lufkin for the past two years. Karen was born on July 29,1944, in Forest City, Arkansas. Karen was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles Russell Akers and numerous pets she called her children. She is survived by her sister Becky Evans and her children. Karen requested no Memorial Service and that her ashes be scattered with Charlie’s in a lake they enjoyed in Arkansas. She was a college librarian for many years in Arkansas until Charlie’s job with Dupont (Invista) sent them to new destinations. They eventually settled in Orange, Texas, in 1995. Karen was a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church of Orange and the Orange Newcomers’ Club (Welcome Friends). She loved playing Bridge, Bunco, and Mahjonng, and was always ready to shop and eat out. Reading was a passion-she loved her mysteries. Karen was a very good artist and a had beautiful signing voice. She had an amazing collection of bunny rabbits of all types. She made friends easily and especially loved interacting with children. She will be missed by many.
