Both coaches walked away satisfied after Friday’s scrimmage at Battlin’ Bear Stadium between Orangefield and the host Bears.
LCM had a 10-7 edge in the controlled scrimmage and a 14-7 score after one quarter of live play. The other story was the absence of Braylon Lewis as LCM QB because of an injury to his hand. Coach Eric Peevey said he will miss “weeks.” Jakson Struwe took the snaps with the first team and Peevey was happy with his performance which included a long TD pass to Khayden Reed.
“We have some kids playing new positions and they need more time. Orangefield as expected was tough and gave us some a good scrimmage. We got better because of them tonight,” he said. The Bears go from being Goliath this week to David next week when they host PNG. Then they’ll play Hamshire-Fannett in the opener August 29.
Meantime Coach Jeff Breaux was proud of his Bobcats’ efforts. “I was proud of the way we fought. We moved the ball well at times and the defense played really well I thought. I think we ran out of gas towards the end playing against the Bears and their depth.”
The Bobcats face another big team in Silsbee on Thursday before opening the season against Woodville.
