The inaugural season of the Athlete’s Unlimited Softball League is in the books after the Talons swept the Bandits in a best of three series over the weekend.
After winning the regular season title, the Talons beat the Bandits 3-1 in Game 1 and 1-0 in Game 2 following a couple rain delays. Sydney Romero hit a solo shot in the sixth that proved to be the game winner while Montana Fouts pitched a complete game shutout.
The Talons are coached by Orange native Howard Dobson who came out of a short retirement after a long career coaching college softball.
In an interview after the game Dobson said, “What a day to make history. From having to come back to finish the first game, to come back and do what we did, our pitching staff was unbelievable this weekend, to do that, to that offense is unheard of.”
“In the world of softball it was a great day. This league is going up, it’s continuing to rise, and there’s no ceiling. It’s gonna keep growing and keep growing. We’re really proud of the opportunity to be the first champion.”
The Talons finished the season 20-6.
