On Friday, July 18, 2025 in Deweyville, deputies with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an address off County Road 3870 in reference to a burglary of a habitation. Deputies were able to gather evidence and begin searching for the stolen property and any potential suspects. On Monday, July 21, 2025, deputies traveled to a residence in Bridge City where they recovered some of the stolen property and interviewed a possible suspect. While at the residence in Bridge City, deputies observed stolen property inside of a vehicle on the property. Deputies were able to obtain a search warrant and subsequently recovered stolen property from the vehicle.
Following the recovery of the property from the vehicle, the investigation led to a pawn shop in Beaumont, where additional property was recovered. Deputies presented evidence to Newton County Justice of the Peace, Michael Greer, who subsequently issued an arrest warrant on Joseph Daniel Koons, for Burglary of a Habitation. Shortly after the warrant was issued, Koons was arrested by the Bridge City Police Department and transported to the Orange County Jail.
