The Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers are investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash on U.S. Highway 87, south of Trout Creek, that occurred Monday, July 21, 2025.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 3:03 p.m., a 2023 Buick Enclave and a 2015 Freightliner Cascadia towing a 2019 Utility trailer were traveling north. It is reported that the Buick attempted to make a u-turn on the road and was struck by the Freightliner.
The driver of the Buick, identified as a 85-year-old female of Orange, was pronounced deceased on scene by Justice of the Peace Dana Ashmore. One passenger, a 90-year-old male of Orange was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of possible life-threatening-injuries.
The driver of the freightliner, identified as 58-year-old Joseph Mwangi of Willis, was transported to Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
