
Orange County Health Inspectors reported inspections at food establishments throughout Orange County over the last two weeks.
Several businesses received a perfect score of 100. They include Lucy’s Cafe in Pinehurst and Bloom Nutrition, SnoBarn SnoCones, Bobcat SnoCones, and the Pilot Travel Center in Orange. In Vidor, Rosita’s Taqueria, Cookie and Crust, and Fastlane.
Restaurants scoring in the 90’s include: Dairy Queen in BC 94, McDonald’s on 16th in Orange, 93, Noah’s Seafood in Vidor 91, Taco Bell in Vidor 97, Subway in Vidor 92.
Kim’s Donut Palace in Vidor received an 86. Found raw shelled eggs being left out at room temperatures. Found sausage and boudin kolaches out of proper temperatures. No record of time found on keeping sausage and boudin kolaches out at room temperatures. Need to cover all foods inside coolers/freezers during storage. Soap is needed at the handwashing station at all times of operation.
Chito’s Ice Cream in Orange received an 87. Found several containers of ice cream being stored in the deep freezers with no covers. All food must be covered when stored. Ice machine has slime and mold build up. Needs to be cleaned immediately. Ice scoop being stored inside ice machine directly on top of ice. All foods inside freezers and fridge need to be labeled when out of original packaging. Dates are needed on all products inside coolers/freezers. Paper towels are needed at the handwashing station. Proper handwashing is required at all times. Air conditioner in the back kitchen area is leaking everywhere onto the floor. Ceiling tiles above the air conditioner need to be repaired.
Hushpuppy Seafood in Vidor, 88. Need to cover all foods inside reach-in freezer/cooler. Found employees without hair restraints and an employee without sleeves on her shirt. Found no soap at the handwashing station. The ceiling is plywood throughout. Need to have something smooth, non-absorbent cleanable material as the ceiling. Personal food/drinks found being stored improperly inside the reach-in cooler. Bag of onions found stored directly on the floor. All food storage is required to be 6-inches off the floor at all times. Area around vent-a-hood needs to be cleaned of old grease build up.
LaVaquita’s Meat Market scored a 76. Cooling foods in large pots on the floor in the kitchen. Proper cooling of foods is required. Sauces and cut vegetables on front prep line out of proper temperatures. Chemicals being stored improperly around/above foods throughout kitchen. Pipes under the 3 compartment sink dripping water at the base under sink. Immediate repairs needed. Foods being stored on floor throughout kitchen/walk-in cooler. Outside/inside of all fixed equipment throughout establishment needs to be cleaned and sanitized of old foods/grease build up. Floors and walls throughout need to be cleaned of old foods/grease build up.
