On October 23, 1933, God granted life to Alma Provost as the 3rd of 5 children born to the union of Alice (Harmon) Provost and Clemille Provost. Her earliest years of life were spent growing up in Rayne, LA.
Later the family moved to Orange, TX.
In Orange she met and fell in love with Robert Earl Jones. They were married and relocated to Houston, TX. Two daughters were born to this union. Mona Deloris Jones and Marcia Gail Jones.
Alma resided in Houston for most of her adult life.
Alma learned to trust God at an early age. Although she endured many challenges and struggles, she never waivered in her faith.
She served as a faithful member of various denominations over the years, but when she began attending Holy Valley Church of God In Christ, she began to truly study God’s word and to mediate on it as she gained wisdom on the things of God. She flourished and wholeheartedly began her Christian journey. The word of God became her food, and she thrived on it.
After the death of Robert, she married Floyd Dekins of Galveston, TX. After his death, she reclaimed her maiden name.
She returned to Orange and resided here for more than 22 years.
She became a member of the St. Paul C.M.E. Church and served in the Women’s Missionary Society. She was a faithful member until her health prevented her from attending services. She continued to support the church through her tithes. She loved her church family and looked forward to the visits from the Pastor and members. Not only did she draw strength and inspiration from their words of encouragement, but she hoped that the light of Christ within her would enlighten and encourage them as well.
On June 18th, 2025, our heavenly father saw fit to call her home. She jubilantly ran into his loving arms, knowing that HE alone could give her the peace, joy, and complete fulfillment that her soul had always longed for.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sister, Mary Lou Provost and great grandson, Joshua Skipper.
She leaves to cherish and cFuselier and life daughters Mona Skipper (Edward) and Marcia Holcomb, sisters, Nancy Crowley and Lou Ella Black, brother, Clarence Provost, 1 granddaughter, Shantra Skipper, 3 grandsons, Robert Skipper, Cedric Holcomb and Cory Holcomb, 3 great granddaughters, Darilyn Fuselier, Dominque Fuselier and Naliyah Skipper, 1 great grandson, Michael Hunter Skipper, nephew, Frank Crowley, III, and a host of nieces, other family members and friends.
