LCM catcher Lexis Moss guns down an attempted theft in the first inning with Eden Frenzel on the tag.
It didn’t come easy but it’s not supposed to in the playoffs. The LCM Lady Bears took advantage of a dropped ball in the outfield and scored two runs, beating Livingston 3-1 at Lamar in Gm. 1 of their best of three series.
LCM scored first when Ella Stephenson continued her hot hitting in the postseason. She hit a triple in the second, scoring Abby Sepulvado.
Livingston responded when Stephenson walked the bases loaded and then the tying run scored from third on a passed ball.
In the bottom of the fifth, Eden Frenzel lead off with a single, followed by a walk to Kendall Jones. Tessa Erickson reached on an error to load the bases. Kinsley Doucet then sent one high in the air to the centerfielder. She dropped the ball and Frenzel and Jones scored to give the Bears a two run lead.
Erickson, who had replaced starter Stephenson took down six of the next seven batters for the win.
The Lady Bears (29-4-1) finished with just four hits, two by Stephenson, and the other two by Frenzel and Erickson. Stephenson and Erickson combined to strike out eight. Livingston’s pitcher Brooke Anderson pitched the whole game and struck out 10.
Game 2 and 3 will be Friday beginning at 5:30pm at Cleveland HS. The winner of the series will play the winner between LaGrange and Gatesville.
