
David “Dave” Benton Winfrey Sr., 80, of Vidor, TX, passed away at his residence on Sunday, April 27th, 2025.
A lifelong resident of Vidor, Dave was deeply rooted in his community and his faith as a devoted member of Turning Point Church. Known for his strong work ethic and dedication to craftsmanship, he was the proud owner of Dave Winfrey Home Builder, where he spent decades building homes and relationships throughout the area.
Dave had a love for life’s simple pleasures. He was an avid baseball fan who rarely missed a game and found joy in tending his garden. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family—his greatest pride and joy.
He is survived by his children: Wendy Leger and husband Brian Sr. of Pine Forest, TX; Kelly Don Winfrey Sr. and wife Diana of Vidor, TX; and David Winfrey Jr. of New Braunfels, TX. He is also survived by his daughter-in-law, Tishy Bryant of Austin, TX; siblings Edward Bland of Vidor, TX, Douglas Winfrey of Beaumont, TX, and Sylvia McCullor of Vidor, TX; and his brother and lifelong friend Sambo Tarver of Vidor, TX.
Dave leaves behind five grandchildren: Brenda Witt and husband Bobby of Vidor, TX; Brian Leger Jr. of Pine Forest, TX; Kelly Don Winfrey Jr. of Westminster, CO; Keith Winfrey and wife Breighann of Mauriceville, TX; and Brianna Bryant of Austin, TX. He was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren who brought light and laughter into his later years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Brenda Winfrey, and second wife, Cindy Winfrey; his daughter, Monte Winfrey; his stepson, Bobby Bryant; and his sister, Geraldine Marshall.
Dave’s legacy is one of love, hard work, and devotion to family. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
