Orange police have been busy answering calls about burglaries and thefts during the past two weeks. Officers caught two juveniles and an adult in the process of breaking into an apartment about 1 Monday afternoon. However, they were released because the resident of the apartment did not want to press charges, according to Detective Captain Cliff Hargrave. A neighbor called in the burglary at the complex on Cherry Avenue between 15th and 16th Streets. Captain Hargrave said the man who didn’t want to file charges was arrested because he had outstanding traffic warrants.
As the summer heat hovers near 100 degrees, some of the targets of the thieves are air conditioners. Two window units were reported stolen to Orange police on Friday and Saturday. Captain Hargrave said an air conditioner stolen from the Bayou Club on Simmons Drive was recovered and the thief had it installed and running. The Bayou Club burglary was discovered about 8 a.m. Friday when an employee opened the business. Besides the air conditioner, $250 in quarters was stolen along with a 100 quart pot with a basket and lid. Also missing were three bottles of liquor. The other air conditioner, which was a 24,000 BTU model worth about $600, was taken from a vacant rent house in the 1200 block of John Avenue.

Burglary, 7:41 a.m. Saturday, 1800 block of 11th Street. A weed-eater and a lawn mower worth a total of $400 were missing.
