
Mary Ann Lee McDonald passed away peacefully in her home in Orange, Texas on April 24, 2025, at the age of 81, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on April 7, 1944, in Winona, Texas, but was special enough to have been given a second birthday of April 11, 1944.
Mary dedicated much of her life to serving her community through her work with the Orange Appraisal District and as a devoted secretary for both the Little Cypress-Mauriceville CISD and the West Orange-Cove CISD. Her professional life was marked by her attention to detail and her unwavering commitment to helping others.
A woman of simple pleasures, Mary found joy in the outdoors, often spending her free time fishing or immersed in a good crossword puzzle. She was an avid collector of porcelain and depression glass, amassing an impressive collection over the years that brought her much happiness.
During her high school years, Mary was engaged in her community as a member of the student council, honored to be the FFA sweetheart, and named Miss Little Cypress. Her faith was an integral part of her life, and she was a cherished member of the Trinity Baptist Church in Orange, Texas.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Mattie Lee, and her beloved sister, Helen Pierce and granddaughter, Gracie Griffin. She leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth that will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Mary was a devoted wife to Jerry McDonald, her beloved husband of over 60 years. Together, they built a loving family and shared a life filled with treasured memories. She was the cherished mother of two daughters, Leslie Lovelace (Robert) and Kimberly Griffin (Chris), and the proud grandmother of Meagan Tilley (Derek), Dirk McDonald, Dakota Dallas (Mason), Wade Griffin, Nikki Griffin, Gracie Griffin, step-grandsons Brandon Lovelace (Brandy), and Blake Lovelace. Her legacy continues through her great-grandchildrenReagan McDonald, Logan McDonald, Connor Runnels, Knox Dallas, Brody Tilley, Beckham Tilley, Zephyr McDonald, Essie Dallas,Axel McDonald, Brinlee Lovelace, Jett Lovelace, and numerous nieces and nephews who brought immense joy to her life. She is also survived by one sister, Martha Goldsmith.
The family will receive friends and loved ones for services at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Dorman Funeral Home, where they will celebrate the life of this remarkable woman who touched so many hearts; Pastor Lynn Ashcraft officiating. Rite of Committal and Interment will immediately follow, at Parish Cemetery. Visitation of family and friends will be held Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 6:00 PM- 8:00 PM, at Dorman Funeral Home.
Mary Ann Lee McDonald’s life was a testament to love, family, and community. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
