September 9, 1973 – April 9, 2025
Benny Gene Fields, 51, of Orange, Texas, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2025. Born on September 9, 1973, to Benny and Audrey Mae Fields, Benny was the baby brother of a big, loving family—and he carried that gentle heart with him throughout his life.
A sweet soul and self-proclaimed loner, Benny spent much of his adult life quietly and lovingly caring for his mother, Audrey. He had the kind of patience that could calm a storm and a kindness that never needed an announcement. Whether he was tinkering with something, lending a hand, or just sitting in calm conversation, Benny made you feel at ease. He had a way of seeing people—not for who they were trying to be, but for who they really were—and loving them anyway.
In time, Benny found love of his own. He became a proud father to his beloved son, Dustin, who survives him and carries forward his legacy of gentleness and quiet strength. Though life brought changes, Benny never stopped loving his family—near or far, loud, or quiet (and some of us are very loud).
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Audrey and Benny Fields; his Uncle Ronnie Fields; maternal grandparents Nick and Stenie Marie Broussard; and paternal grandfather Delbert Fields (and one sweet grandmother whose name we’re still hunting down).
He leaves behind his cherished son, Dustin; his five older siblings—George Boudreaux, Richard Dale Boudreaux, Walter Gerlach, Audrey Prince, and Tina McBryde; and a whole crew of nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Benny/Gene for his soft-spoken wisdom, calm presence, and occasional sly jokes. His quiet way left a loud mark on all our hearts.
Benny may have lived life off the radar, but to those who knew him, he was a steady light—a soft place to land, and someone who never wavered in his love.
We’ll miss you, Benny Gene. We promise to be kind to others, to be patient, and maybe even take a moment of quiet in your honor… but just a moment, because you know we’re not great at staying quiet.
We will have a small celebration of life at a later time with close family.
