Tuesday Newton Co. Judge Ronald Cochran issued a Burn Ban in effect until March 25, 2025
When a burn ban is in effect, take these precautions to prevent wildfires:
No Outdoor Burning – This includes campfires, trash burning, and burn barrels.
Avoid Using Fireworks – Sparks can easily ignite dry grass and brush.
Be Cautious with Grilling – Use propane or charcoal grills on non-flammable surfaces, away from dry vegetation.
Properly Dispose of Cigarettes – Never toss cigarette butts on the ground; use a proper container.
Secure Trailer Chains – Dragging metal chains on the road can create sparks that ignite fires.
Limit Equipment Use – Avoid welding, grinding, or operating machinery that generates sparks near dry areas.
Report Any Signs of Fire – Call 911 immediately if you see smoke or flames.
