
Jerald Michael Whatley, 72, of Vidor, Texas, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025. He was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas, and was a proud graduate of South Park High School, Class of 1972. A longtime resident of Vidor, Jerald spent 12 years as a firefighter before beginning his career as a Safety Director in the construction industry, where his dedication and leadership left a lasting impact.
Jerald had a love for the simple pleasures in life—working on his tractor, tending to his land, and making sure the hummingbirds in his yard were always well-fed. He found joy in the outdoors and took pride in caring for his home and family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Donna Whatley of Vidor, TX; his children, Kelly Harper and husband Scott of Warren, TX, Brandie Ferguson of Vidor, TX, Monique Chandler of Vidor, TX, and Jessica Murphy of New Orleans, LA; and his sister, Doris Shifflett of Port Neches, TX. He also leaves behind 10 cherished grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Jerald was preceded in death by his parents Emma and Louis Whatley; his brothers, R.L. Whatley and Cecil Whatley; and his sisters, Gwen Godeaux, Kathy Whatley, and Shirley Johnson.
Jerald’s legacy of hard work, love for his family, and appreciation for the beauty of life will be remembered by all who knew him. His family finds comfort in the memories they shared and the lasting impact he had on those around him.
