Evelyne Elaine McCullin Sims was born December 25, 1932 in Pineville, LA to Jesse B. and Hannah Ryland McCullin and died January 17, 2025, in Dallas, TX. (She was actually named Evelyn but at some point, decided the extra “e” added a little flair!) Her family moved from Louisiana to Port Arthur, Texas during her high school years and she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1951.
She married Charles O. Sims, Jr. in 1952 who preceded her in death in 1978. They raised their family of three children in Port Arthur where she enjoyed being involved in and supporting their many activities. Their home was always wide open to their children’s friends. All knew they were welcome. She and Charles were active in Baptist churches in Port Arthur where they taught teenagers and young married couples.
Evelyne moved to Dallas soon after the death of her husband. In Dallas she enjoyed a career as a receptionist at Eastman Kodak Health Imaging, a role that came naturally to her due to her friendly, cheerful disposition. She thoroughly enjoyed her working life and the people she worked with before retiring after 18 years of service.
In Dallas, Evelyne was a member of Park Cities Baptist Church and active in the Pathfinders Class for many years. There she met dear friends that she traveled the country and Europe with and shared may hours of enjoyment in a 42 domino group.
Her love for football began as a devoted fan of the Thomas Jefferson High School Yellow Jackets when she and Charles had season tickets long before their children were in high school. As time went on she became a huge fan of the Texas Tech Red Raiders after her children attended school there, the Dallas Cowboys after her move to Dallas and later the Kansas City Chiefs. She was always a little down when football season ended.
Evelyne was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, brother J.B. McCullin, Jr., and daughter Charlayne Sterling. She is survived by daughter Colleen Sims of Dallas, son Scot Sims and wife Terri of Orange and grandchildren James Breaux of San Antonio, Traci Fontenot and husband Dustin of Houston, Julie Jones and husband Tye of Spring and great grandchildren Laurel and Clementine Breaux, Marin and Miller Fontenot and Elodie and Harrison Jones. Also, sisters-in-law Fran Barksdale, Patsy Snell, Shirley Darville and husband Rob.
