Rodger “Danny” Daniel Hargraves, age 91, of Gatesville, Texas, passed away at his residence on Monday, January 6, 2025. A longtime resident of Rose City, Texas, Danny relocated to Gatesville three years ago but always held fond memories of his roots in Winnie, Texas, where he was born and raised.
Danny proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After his military service, he spent many years as a skilled welder at Dresser Industries. In his free time, Danny was a Scottish Rite Mason for 50 years and an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. His passion for the water led him to enjoy both fresh and saltwater fishing, shrimping, and as a young man the occasional alligator wrangling.
Danny is survived by his children: Daniel Ray Hargraves and wife Lisa of Connecticut, Brenda Ray and husband Eddie of Gatesville, Texas, Rodger Hargraves Jr. and wife Becky Miller of Pennsylvania, Jeffery Hargraves and wife Teresita of Cransfills Gap, Texas, and Tracy Dowdle and husband Kevin of Gatesville, Texas. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Laura Butts French of Conroe, Texas, and Chris Butts and wife Stacey of Vidor, Texas, as well as his sister, Opal Faye Hargraves Broussard of Louisiana. Additionally, Danny leaves behind 21 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ann Hargraves, Parents: Rodger G. and Lucile Hargraves, Siblings: John Edward Hargraves, Gerty Stuckey, and Freddy Hargraves.
Danny’s life was one filled with his love of Christ, service to others, hard work, and love for his family. He had a deep connection with the great outdoors which provided him with many years of peace and enjoyment. His legacy will live on through the many lives he touched.
A memorial service to honor his life will be held January 13, 2025, at 10am under the direction of Vidor Memorial Funeral Home.
