A 40-year-old pickup truck driver was taken by ambulance to Baptist Hospital Orange emergency room after an SUV hit the driver’s side on FM 105 Saturday morning. Orange Police Officer C.J. Foreman reported that 40-year-old Leah Aven Carpenter was traveling westbound in the 7600 block of FM 105 at Beadle Road. A Ford Expedition was traveling behind Carpenter’s pickup and tried to pass as the pickup turned left onto Beadle. Three passengers in the pickup truck were not injured. Officer Foreman issued a citation to the driver of the SUV, 35-year-old Rebecca Ann Best, for passing in a no passing zone. He reported that Best and a 2-year-old passenger were not injured.
An estimated $3,000 in damage to landscaping plants along the fence at Shangri La Botanical was caused Saturday afternoon when a car ran off Park Avenue into the fence line. Officer Isaac Henry with the Orange Police Department reported the driver said he had a medical problem that caused him to pass out. The accident was about 2 p.m. The Ford Fiesta was traveling northbound on Park Avenue and crossed the opposite lane and ran through the palmettos and small trees. The car stopped before hitting the fence. Officer Henry issued citations to driver 38-year-old Jason J. Zeigler for driving without a license and failure to maintain a single lane.
A motorcyclist was taken by Acadian Ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital Saturday after he was thrown off the cycle while turning from Sunset Drive left onto North 16th Street. Orange Police Officer Isaac Henry reported 51-year-old Gene Allen Smith was driving a 2014 Harley-Davidson about 5 p.m. When the driver turned, the gear case made contact with the roadway, throwing the driver off. Officer Henry reported that the driver did not have a Class M for motorcycles on his driver’s license. The officer thinks the accident was due to the driver’s inexperience.
