Jeanne Goetschius, 91, passed away at her home in Vidor, Texas on Monday, December 9, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Jeanne was born and raised in Port Arthur where she enjoyed playing piano and singing. Her mother taught her to sew at an early age, which developed into a lifelong passion. She was a proud member of the Red Hussar Drum and Bugle Corps at Thomas Jefferson High School. During her senior year, she met the love of her life, Joe Goetschius. They married shortly after she graduated and remained married for 55 years until his death in 2006.
Jeanne was a devoted wife, loving mother, supportive daughter, and loyal friend. She loved sewing for her daughters and granddaughters. She enjoyed scrapbooking, circle the word books, and playing cards and dominoes with friends. In her later years, she renewed her interest in piano, becoming proficient at playing her favorite hymns and popular music. Jeanne was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church, enjoying Bible studies, fellowship, and volunteering. She was a former member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Red Hat Society. She also kept up to date with news, entertainment, and politics.
Family and friends fondly remember her as a person who always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everyone. Her home was filled with the aroma of her delicious family meals and homemade pies. Her genuine interest in others and their stories created an atmosphere of warmth and connection wherever she went. Jeanne held her family and faith in Jesus dear, always putting others before herself and living a life full of love and kindness.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband Joe, parents Hollie and Gladys Singletary, twin brother Jerry Singletary, and daughter-in-law Diane Ener Goetschius.
Jeanne is survived by her son Bobby Goetschius of Vidor, daughter Dianne (David) Thomas of Vidor, daughter Cheryl Goetschius (Guy Herman) of Spring, son Jack Goetschius of Beaumont, and daughter Debra Goetschius of Spring. Her grandchildren include Brent (Sherie) Thomas, Alane Thomas, Katrina (Keven) Johnson, Keila Goetschius (JW Buller), Kalley (Jared) McConathy, Karley (Derek) Jackson, and Taylor Herman. Great-grandchildren include Bradley, Lacey, Kamryn, Coby, Gemma, Rylan, Micah, Gabriel, Brody, Jack, Addi, Ella, Clara, and Dylan. As well as numerous grand-fur babies.
Jeanne’s legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to her family and friends will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.
