John Austin Nagel, 78, passed away on December 11, 2024 in Beaumont, Texas. John called Vidor home for most of his life and was retired from Mobil Oil. He was a proud member of the U.S. Airforce where he received the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal for serving in Thailand during the Vietnam War. John was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, and skeet shooting. He loved spending time at the beach or the deer camp with family and friends any chance he could. He loved history, reading historical markers and travel. John loved spending time with family and was quick to pay for everyone’s meal, just happy to spend time with family.
John was preceded in death by his parents Homer and Gwendolyn (Glenn) Nagel and his sister Brenda Beathard.
John is survived by his wife Carolyn of Lumberton and his children: Brady Nagel and wife Lindsay and Brandi Moree and husband Chris of Vidor and stepchildren: Scott Yates and wife Lori, Judd Adams and wife Joanna, Jarrod Adams and wife Rachel, and Travis Edgerton of Lumberton. He is also survived by his brother Charles Nagel of Vidor and 9 grandchildren: Trace and Zane Nagel, Reese and Rylee Moree, Chance Adams, Addie Yates, Isaac and Everett Adams, and Kase Edgerton.
He was preceded in death by his infant granddaughter Tabitha Adams.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in his memory.
