After 32 years of dedicated service as the District Attorney of Orange County, John D. Kimbrough is retiring. Kimbrough and his wife Kelly, whom he met at the Orange County Courthouse, will be starting their next chapter in the Texas Hill Country where they can be nearer to their sons Ryan and Grant.
A Retirement Party will be held at the courthouse on Friday, December 13 from 1-3pm and those who would like to wish him well in his next chapter are invited to attend.
Kimbrough came to Orange in 1985 after graduating from the University of Houston Law School to work as an Assistant District Attorney, a position he held for five years before joining local attorney Ed Barton in private practice for three years. Kimbrough then ran for and was elected Orange County District Attorney. He took office on January 1, 1993.
Under Kimbrough’s leadership, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office has indicted approximately 20,000 felony cases and filed approximately 60,000 misdemeanor cases. Throughout the years, Kimbrough has held steadfast to the provision in the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure which sets forth that the duty of the prosecutor is “to see that justice is done.”
