Dorothy Mae Schulle Bohn of West Orange Texas, formerly of Victoria Texas, passed away on November 21, 2024. She departed this world peacefully in her sleep. She was born on July 26, 1930 to Willie Christian and Leona Schmidt Schulle in Maxwell Texas. She attended Lockhart High School where she was a majorette for the marching band. After High School she moved to Austin and started working at T H Williams. There she met the love of her life, Bill. William Bohn and Dorothy married on December 23, 1949 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Maxwell, Texas. They lived in Austin while Bill finished school, moved briefly to Lockhart, and then moved to Victoria where they would raise their family and build their life together. They were married for almost 50 years until his death in 1999. They were blessed with 2 sons, George and Jim.
Dorothy was always busy either working or volunteering. She worked for Victoria College from 1961 to 1990 in Administration. She served as a business office clerk, the President’s secretary, and then as the Assistant Business Manager until her retirement. She cherished her time with the college and put significant importance in higher education. She was awarded 2 separate awards from the State of Texas Retired Teachers Association. One a Best of Show and the other a TRTA Award of Distinction. After retirement she spent her time volunteering at Citizen’s Medical Center. She logged over 25,000 hours of volunteer work over the years.
Dorothy enjoyed spending her time participating in many activities, organizations, and clubs. She joined Woodlawn Garden Club in 1961 and later helped organize the Victoria Garden Club where she served as President. She was a member of the Texas Association of Hospital Volunteers holding multiple positions in her time there. She was a member of a local bridge club. She was also a member of the Quilt Guild of Greater Victoria.
Dorothy was devoted to her faith and served several positions at her church in Victoria. She was Secretary of FELC, Chairman of Congregational Life for the 75th Anniversary, Circle Chairman, Sunday school teacher, choir mother, delegate to Synod Assembly Convention, President for Women of ELCA, Board of Elders, planning committee, building committee for the Hiller Activity Center Kitchen, building and policy committee, and a delegate from SWTSWO to national convention.
She will be remembered for her devotion to her family and faith, her kindness, her dedication to passing on traditions, and the many stories and lessons she left with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband William “Bill” Bohn, her niece Karen Brannan, nephew Doug Tatsch, and 3 siblings. Those left to cherish her memory are her children George and Jill, Jim and Florence, 5 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Dorman’s Funeral Home in Orange on Friday, November 29, 2024 from 5-7pm. Funeral and grave side services will be held in Maxwell, Texas at Ebenezer Lutheran Church on Friday December 6, 2024 at 11 am with visitation preceding at 10am. Serving as pallbearers are Dan Hudson, Shawn Brannan, Brian Brannan, Wade Sanders, Benjamin Mumme, and William Schulle.
