Scofflaw goes into effect August 3, 2015
Monday was the first day that the recently approved Texas Scofflaw went into effect in Orange County. The Commissioners Court approved implementing the Scofflaw at the end of June. It allows Orange County to deny the renewal of a vehicle registration for citizens who owe the county a fine or fee. Tax Assessor Collector Lynda Gunstream said the fines or fees are tied to those issued by the four justice of the peace offices in the county since those offices have the same computer software as her office. As of late Monday afternoon Gunstream reported that her clerks had not turned anyone away for having an outstanding fine or fee. To view Orange County warrants or fines go to www.co.orange.tx.us.
