Orange County Commissioners learned Tuesday that Golden Triangle Polymers Company has spent more than $355 million on local goods and services since the project was announced.
Heather Betancourth with GTPC presented the third quarter report and told the court that almost 4500 people are working at the plant site on Hwy. 87 South across from the Orange County Airport. Over 1800 of those workers have come from the Golden Triangle. GTPC is a joint venture owned indirectly by Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (51%) and QatarEnergy U.S. Investments LLC (49%).
In the third quarter GTPC and primary contractors working for GTPC, spent almost $17 million on contracted work and almost $1.3 million on small purchases, mostly food from area businesses.
GTP and Orange County created the Local First Initiative to help with hiring locally qualified people. Their Local First website offers an easy registration process allowing job seekers to upload their resume and select jobs they’re interested in. In the third quarter they had 273 registrations of which 107 were referred for employment and 27 were referred to the workforce center for further development.
The total installed cost of the project is expected to be $8.5 billion. The expected start up is in 2026.
