Several groups got together after a suggestion from Deborah Bednar wanted to recognize 100 years of golf at Sunset Grove CC. That recognition came from a mural that is now painted on the back of the pro shop at the course off of Sunset Drive in Orange. A ribbon cutting was held Tuesday.
Orange County, the OC Historical Society, the City of Orange, and Trey & Ross Smith provided the funds to have the 120 foot mural painted by Lauren Leigh.
The course at Sunset Grove was designed by famed golf architect Donald Ross after he was contacted by W. H. Lutcher Stark in 1923. Ross designed over 400 courses in the US, but only 3 in Texas.
Historian Sarah Boehme emceed the event and talks about the project.
