The Boston Red Sox Sunday recalled right-handed pitcher Chase Shugart from Triple-A Worcester.
He was inserted into Sunday’s game against Detroit, throwing two hitless innings with two strikeouts.
Shugart, 27, made his Major League debut on August 15 against the Baltimore Orioles, recording two strikeouts over 2.2 innings. The right-hander has also pitched in 32 games, five starts, with Worcester this season, going 5-2 with one save, a 4.55 ERA (33 ER/65.1 IP), and 77 strikeouts. Originally selected by Boston in the 12th round of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft, the Texas native has posted a 4.70 ERA (197 ER/377.0 IP) in 159 career minor league games (50 starts).
