As of 7 p.m. Thursday, Entergy Texas restoration crews have turned the lights back on for approximately 162,800 of the 252,460 customers impacted by Hurricane Beryl. Most of the remaining outages are in heavily damaged areas requiring more extensive repairs. Crews will continue to assess damage in hard-hit areas while safely restoring power as quickly as possible to communities.
Only 139 customers in Orange County remain without power. 17 in Hardin County, and 82 in Jefferson County. The entire Bolivar Peninsula is still without power. Entergy is predicting the island will have electricity by 10pm Friday. (UPDATE: Half of the island (east) got their power back early Friday) The Jasper-Newton Electric Cooperative announced at 11pm Thursday that all customers were back online.
Entergy Texas restoration is done in an orderly and deliberate manner. Power is first restored to critical community infrastructure and essential services such as hospitals, water treatment plants, police and fire stations, and communication systems. Next, lines serving large areas of customers, then neighborhoods are restored. This process returns power to the largest number of customers in the shortest amount of time. Some homes and businesses take longer, as individual customer homes or businesses with damage are often the most time-consuming repairs.
