
Jean McFetridge, age 88, of Mauriceville, Texas, passed away at her home, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, in Mauriceville, Texas. A memorial service, to honor Jean, will be held at 1:00 PM, Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Cowboy Church Orange of County; Sr. Pastor Harland Strother officiating. Arrangements were made under the care of Dorman Funeral Home.
Jean Davies McFetridge was born Sunday, July 21, 1935, in Liverpool, England, to parents Robert and Dorothy Davies. She was a citizen of England and a survivor of World War II. She married an Air Force airman, Lawson “Smitty” Smith, and with their six month old baby, Linda, their family came by Navy ship to the United States. After twelve years and a failed marriage, Jean moved to Orange, Texas, with her three children, where she then met Richard “Dick” McFetridge; they fell in love and married. On August 6, 1993, Jean became a citizen of the United States. She and her loving husband built a home together, one piece at a time, close to Mauriceville, Texas. Jean later became a beautician, owning her own beauty shop, until she retired.
Jean found a deep joy and took great pride in making floral arrangements, sewing, and buying all kinds of cooking utensils, and cooking with them. She loved shopping from HSN and QVC! Jean always loved holiday meals and family get togethers. Jean was a loving woman, who will be greatly missed, by all who knew her.
Jean accepted Jesus as her Lord and personal savior, doing her profession of Faith through Sr. Pastor Harland Strother. She was later baptized at home, with her beloved husband’s cremains by her side.
Preceding Jean in death was her husband, Richard “Dick” McFetridge; parents, Robert and Dorothy Davies; son, Robert Smith; and great-grandson, Levi Alexander Brown.
Those left to cherish Jean’s memory are her daughter, Linda Carlton; son, David Smith; son-in-law, Josh Brown; grandson, Jeremiah Smith; and granddaughter, Maya Smith – Brown.
