On Sunday, June 9th, 2024, at about 2:28 PM, Pinehurst Police Department received a call from a local citizen who was kayaking in Adam’s Bayou and came upon personal belongings. Officers arrived at the location and located car keys, tennis shoes, and identification.
After a thorough investigation the deceased black male has been identified as Niaja Cormier of Houston, TX. Originally from Lafayette, LA. Cormier was listed as a missing person on May 29th, 2024 by Beaumont PD and his next of kin was notified.
Investigator Jocelyn Trussell said, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to Niaja Cormier’s family and friends during this time.” The cause of death was not explained but Trussell said foul play was not expected.
