The Orangefield Bobcats are advancing to the Region III Final for the first time in the Tim Erickson era after beating Rockdale 9-2 Thursday at Cypress Woods HS.
The offense collected 11 hits and they used the bunt to near perfection. In the first inning alone they loaded the bases on three straight bunts.
Logan Cheek and Kane Smith both went 3-4. Cheek had a double and drove in a run. Matt Johnson was 2-4 with a triple and 3 RBI’s. Kyle Michael was 1-3 with 3RBI’s.
Sophomore Kaleb Menard dealt with a tough strike zone. He gave up 2 runs on 4 hits with 4K’s and 3 walks. Garrett Rawls pitched a scoreless sixth and seventh inning.
Bobcat pitchers and the defense held a Tiger team that was averaging seven runs a game, to three runs in two games.
The Bobcats will play Franklin for a chance to go to Austin, TBA. Franklin beat Huntington 2-0, 7-2.
