On a warm, humid evening in Lufkin the LCM Lady Bears jumped out to a 4-0 lead on Bullard but they couldn’t hold it as the Panthers scored 10 runs for the 10-4 win in Game One of their third round series.
In the first inning, Eden Frenzel got things started with a single. She was sacrificed to second by Jacelyn Cook. Then Lexis Moss got the Bear crowd on its feet with a two run homer.
Keylie Washburn walked and stole second. She came home on a single by Ava White to make it 3-0. And then on the next play Ava Wright singled to score White and the Bears were rolling 4-0.
Bullard (30-6) would change pitchers in the second, bringing in Anistyn Foster, and it changed LCM’s early success at the plate. But Tessa Erickson was pitching well and the defense was too which included two great catches against the center field wall by Ava Wright. The Bears still lead 4-0 going into the fifth.
And then Bullard’s bats came alive. Two 2-run homers to make it 6-4 after five. They would score two more in the sixth and two in the seventh. Of their 11 hits in the game, 10 came in the final three innings.
Moss finished 3-4 with a HR and 2 RBI’s. Wright was 2-3 with an RBI. The other two hits came from Frenzel and White. Foster came in and only allowed 3 hits in the final 5.2 with five strikeouts and one walk.
So the Bears (28-10) will have to do what they did last week and that’s win a Game 3 to advance. Game Two is Friday at 5pm with Game Three to follow in Lufkin.
