Police Briefs-
A man had to be taken to the Baptist Emergency Room in Orange Tuesday night after he was hit in the head with a metal pole. Orange Police Officer Isaac Henry reported he was called to the 1600 block of 14th Street at 8:22 p.m. When he arrived he saw a man lying in the yard with a head injury. Detective Captain Cliff Hargrave said two men brought the metal pole to beat up the man. Apparently the two men know someone who knows the victim.
A man cleaning his gun was shot in the hand about midnight Tuesday when he was cleaning his pistol. Another man at the house suffered a gunshot wound in the leg after the bullet went through the other man’s hand. Officer R.G. Ashworth reported the injuries are not life-threatening. The man with the hand injury had to go to a Beaumont hospital for treatment. The officer said the gun discharged when the man was cleaning it. The gun is Glock-style Austrian pistol and had .22LR ammunition. The discharge was reported in the 1800 block of Robin Drive.
Orange Police Officer D.Y. Myers discovered a burglary at the Honey Stop convenience store, 1012 Park Avenue, about 6:16 Tuesday morning. He reported he noticed the front door was open and he waited outside for the owner to arrive. A total of an estimated $2,000 in merchandise and cash was missing. The same store was robbed by two men with guns the night of June 14.
