Most people don’t like change, especially when it comes to traffic. This one sounds really bad at first read, but we’ll do our best to ease you into it.
If you travel to Louisiana frequently you’ve probably noticed the sign at the on ramp near the Horseman Store that says the ramp will close April 1. TxDOT says this is not an April Fools Joke.
You would assume if they’re closing that on-ramp, that means they’ll be opening the new on-ramp at Simmons Drive. Like us, you would be wrong.
TxDOT tells KOGT to travel to Louisiana from 16th St. or Simmons Drive, you will have to drive west before traveling east. TxDOT will be sending Louisiana bound traffic to the U-turn under I-10 in front of the Hampton Inn and then the eastbound on-ramp just before the 16th St. intersection.
If you’re southbound on 16th St. it could actually be an easier route because you could possibly avoid the “too long” light at 16th and 10 before turning left.
If you’re northbound at 16th and 10 it’s more inconvenient because you can’t turn right at Chick-Fil-A and get right on. You have to go thru both lights, then turn left onto the service road and U-turn at Hampton Inn.
If you’re coming from Simmons Drive you’ll hit the light now at 16th/10 instead of avoiding the light by using Bob Hall Rd.
There will still be eastbound on-ramps near the MLK and Hwy. 62 intersections.
TxDOT says the closure of the ramp at the Horseman Store will last approximately 90 days.
