Jennifer Smith worked at a restaurant in Vinton for over a decade. While it changed names a couple of times she had worked or learned to operate just about everything inside the establishment. And before it was going to change names again, she decided she wanted a chance at having her own restaurant.
So a little over four years ago, Jenn’s Southern Kitchen was born, just off of Exit 4, next to Cash Magic or for some of us older folks who remember the Pelican Club.
Jenn’s built a solid local customer base and had many stop every time they drove east or west on Interstate 10 for her homemade cracklins and boudin.

But two years ago in April, Jenn passed away unexpectedly at age 42. A decision had to be made about the restaurant.
Jennifer’s sister, Amanda Smith Gradnigo of Orange, worked with her sister over the years and decided to keep it going in her honor.
Gradnigo said the cracklins (made to order) and the boudin are still the favorites but there’s plenty more on the Southern style menu.
Chicken Fried Steak, Pork Chops, Gumbo and Catfish are also favorites as well as the Po-Boys. And on weekends they also serve breakfast. Jenn’s is open Mon-Thurs 11-8, Fri-Sat 8-8 and Sunday 8-2.
Amanda said she appreciates the way Orange supports local business and she hopes people who haven’t already made the five mile trip to Vinton will give them a try. She says the food and the customer service will have you coming back. You might even pay for your meal by pulling on a slot machine next door.
