Charles Kenneth Hall, 68, of Bridge City, Texas passed away on February 7, 2024 at CHRISTUS St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 am, Saturday, February 24 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Bridge City, Texas. Officiating will be Pastor Paul Zoch.
Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, February 23 at Claybar Funeral Home in Bridge City.
Charles was born in Columbus, Ohio on September 21, 1955 to Donald Earl Hall, Jr. and Iva Lois (Hammond) Hall.
Charles was a graduate of Bellaire High School, Bellaire, Texas and a graduate of Southwest Texas University (Texas State University), San Marcos, Texas. He worked for several companies before he found his niche in the area that interested him. He enjoyed offshore and onshore seismic surveying and worked for Marine Technical Services (MTS) in Stafford, Texas on a Geophysical Survey boat followed by John E. Chance and Associates (acquired by Fugro Geoservices), Lafayette, La. He spent much time on the water in the Gulf of Mexico as well as many freezing winters in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska. He worked in the seismic business for nearly forty years before retiring. He was proud to be known as a “Doodlebugger” along with his fellow rowdy Doodlebuggers. Charles met his wife, Ann, when she worked as a temp for MTS and they married nearly 5 years later.
Charles was always there to help with any fixit jobs for his family, friends or church. Whatever he did not already know how to fix, he would research thoroughly and learn how to fix it – this started long before you could “Google” it. He loved spending time with his family, especially his three wonderful grandchildren, who knew him as “Pops”. He could talk forever to his buddies about cars and boats. He loved motorcycles, classic rock music (especially Tom Petty and ZZ Top), classic GM cars (especially corvettes), and radio-controlled airplanes. He enjoyed watching Nascar on television every weekend – new races or the old, old ones. On his last vacation, he and Ann went to Indianapolis for a tour of the Indy 500 raceway – it was exciting to stand on that track. Charles and Ann loved going on cruises with their friends, visiting other countries (traveling in general), and attending music concerts (which was strongly “encouraged” by Ann). Pastor Paul Zoch said he was going to truly miss all of the help that Charles provided to the church for the parade floats and any building project that was going on. His array of tools was greatly appreciated as well as his ability to use them.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Iva Lois and Donald Hall, Jr. of Houston, Texas, grandparents Pearl and Allison Hammond of Angleton, Texas, and Millicent Hall, Sarah Hall, and Donald Hall, Sr. of Columbus, Ohio.
He is survived by Celia Ann (McCallum) Hall, his loving wife of 38 years of Bridge City, his son William Charles Hall and his wife Desiree of Bridge City, his daughter Evangeline Marie Hall Jowell and her husband Houston of Houston; grandchildren – Lauren Scott, Isaac Hall, Blaire Hall; three brothers Allison Hall of College Station, Wesley and his wife Karen Hall of College Station, Craig Hall of New Braunfels; sister-in-law Jeanne Bulnes of Houston, brothers-in-law Billy McCallum, Jr. of San Augustine and Bryan McCallum of Carthage; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and other loving family and friends.
