Edgar Duhon Landry, age 85, of Orange, Texas, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024 at his residence. Services honoring Edgar will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 8, 2024, at First Baptist Church, Deweyville, Texas. Pastor Damon Bickham officiating. Edgar was born September 24, 1938, to Bernice Burke and Edwin Duhon. His blended family blessed him with four brothers and six sisters. He graduated from Little Cypress High School, where he enjoyed playing football. He went on to marry Linda Sanford and had four daughters who love him dearly. He was a great example of a caring, loving Christian man.
Years later he married Betty Hand and moved to Hartburg where they raised their two boys. He enjoyed attending all their sports activities at Deweyville High School. Once the grandchildren came along, new joy came to the home. After 33 1/2 years with Allied Chemical/Honeywell, Edgar retired to spend more time with Betty. They celebrated their 25th anniversary before she passed away. During this time, Edgar began working as a Security Guard for Silver Dollar Casino. He was known for going above and beyond his duties.
Edgar was blessed once again with love when he found Wanda Reno. She helped him find his joy again and put the twinkle back in his eye. They enjoyed family gatherings, listening to Zydeco bands and took a vacation to Alaska, where Edgar had dreamed of visiting to pan for gold. Edgar loved working in the yard with Wanda. Together they created beautiful gardens for the birds and squirrels. On January 1, 2024, they celebrated 18 years of life together. Wanda stayed by his side tending to his every need until his last breath. His children will be forever grateful for the love and care she gave Edgar.
Edgar was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather. He had a gentle but strong spirit. He was a gift to all that crossed his path. Anyone who knew Edgar was aware of his great passion for treasure hunting, which started at a very young age. First with his dear friend Mr. Booty, searching for old bottles, coins, and treasure. Later, he became very interested in rock hunting with Mr. Hood. Edgar carried large rocks he discovered from riverbeds, with the excitement of what might be inside. He became a highly skilled lapidary. He spent many hours grinding, cutting and polishing gemstones. Edgar has now gone to his most rewarding treasure hunt in Heaven.
Edgar is preceded in death by his parents Bernice Burke and Edwin Duhon, siblings Avery Burke, Trilby Landry, Cora Belle Oubre, Theresa Blanco, Albina Burke, and James Allen Burke.
He is survived by his wife Wanda Landry, and his children Sheila Landry, Leisa Jackson and husband Jeff, Leslie Ellender and husband Stewart, Kelly Rashall, Kenneth Hand and wife Charlene, Jody Hand and wife Angela, Todd Reno and wife Melissa, Denise Warren and husband Trey, Gregory Reno and wife Mallory. He had nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, many loving nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth Hand, Jody Hand, Brad Rodriguez, Casey Jackson, Todd Reno, Gregory Reno. Honorary pallbearers are Jeff Jackson and Stewart Ellender.
