The Texas Medical Board has taken disciplinary action for Nick Spero Pomonis, D.O., of Orange for a violation of quality of care. The board and Dr. Pomonis agreed for the doctor to complete at least 16 hours of continuing medical education within a year. The doctor will take courses of at least eight hours in prescribing controlled substances and eight hours for treating chronic pain.
According to the board’s website, the board found that Pomonis failed to meet the standard of care for a patient, or did not sufficiently monitor the patient’s side effects or treatment for chronic pain and depression.
The board reported that Pomonis “ignored red flags of possible abuse warranting a better assessment of the patient’s risk for substance abuse and termination of the patient continued to refuse to provide test samples.”
In addition, the report says Pomonis had inadequate records and did not have documentation supporting diagnosis and treatment.
