The Commissioners Court held the first of two budget workshops Wednesday afternoon. County Auditor Mary Johnson presented the Court as well as several department heads attending the workshop a rough draft of an approximately $41 million balanced budget. County Judge Brint Carlton summarized Wednesday’s meeting and the goal for Thursday morning’s budget workshop by saying they went over the preliminary budget as an estimated estimate and the numbers are in the black which is good, but there is definite potential that there will be more expenses after looking at capital outlays on Thursday so the positive number probably will go down some. Judge Carlton said a more comprehensive budget workshop will be done on July 30 with a draft budget to review and hopefully the Court will approve the new budget by early September, and if not by then law requires the budget be adopted by September 30. Thursday’s workshop will be at 9:00 AM at the Administration Building.
