Clarence Glen Walker, 91, passed away in his home on September 28, 2023, of natural causes, surrounded by his close family and friends. A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Riverbend Ranch in Durango, Colorado, at 4:30 p.m. A potluck dinner will follow.
Born in Orange, Texas, Glen was raised with deep Southern Baptist roots and devoted his life to spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. He was student body president both at Jefferson High School in Port Arthur, Texas, and at Baylor University. From there he attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and went on to become an incredible pastor for thousands of people over the course of sixty years. In Texas, he served in Pioneer Evangelism, conducting more than 80 revivals. He served in local politics both as the mayor of Baytown (1969-73), and as a city councilman there and in Bay City, Texas. He served as the Public Information Officer for Lee College in Baytown and later for Houston Lighting and Power Company (HL&P). In 2001, he and his family moved to Colorado and established Heart of the Rockies Fellowship in the Animas Valley, which would be his final pastorate.
A musician, actor and orator at heart, Glen also enjoyed working in radio, both as
a station manager and sportscaster. He recorded several gospel albums, and played the leading man in many community theater productions, where he met his wife, Ivy. Glen was a family man who always made time for people. He was a fun, caring, and romantic husband and a supportive, inspiring father. Glen had a peaceful ending to a very full life and his genuine and loving spirit will be missed by many. To that he would say “God loves you and I love you.”
Glen is survived by his wife, Ivy; and six daughters and their husbands, Melinda and Terry Keeble, Marla and Robert Walker, Jenny and Jacob Posey, Stephanie Walker, Amy and Titus Nelson, and Katherine Walker. Grandchildren include, Heather Keeble, Austin and Garrett Walker, Abel, Clara, Ethan, Danielle and Simon Posey and great grandson, Nicholas Keeble.
