When Della Gallien volunteered to help Friends Helping Friends after Hurricane Harvey in 2017, her plan was to help for just a month while the need for volunteers was at its highest.
Six years later Gallien is still volunteering. And Wednesday she celebrated her 84th birthday with a special surprise from the organization. They named the building she works in after her. It will now be known as Della’s Shop which is filled with donated furniture and household items.
Friends Helping Friends is a non-profit organization that helps the less fortunate with second hand clothes, furniture and more.
Rita Monson with FHF, says, “Della is a wonderful person and has become a valuable member of the staff. We’re so lucky to have her. This was a small way for us to show our appreciation.”
Volunteers are always needed at FHF. Monson says anyone who wants to help can show up Tuesday through Thursday from 8:30am-3pm.
