All day Monday, firefighters from both the ground and air continued to battle the Texla Wildfire north of Vidor that began Sunday morning.
Late Sunday night residents in the area that were evacuated were allowed to come back to their homes as Orange County Emergency Management Coordinator Joel Ardoin said the fire was 40% contained.
Monday evening Ardoin told KOGT it was about 50% had been contained. Containment is not measured of how much fire is extinguished but rather how much of a perimeter line crews established around the fire’s path of spread.
The fire was estimated to have burned between 400-500 acres. Gusty winds Monday kept a large area around the fire filled with smoke and that is expected to continue on Tuesday.
So far no structures have been lost and no injuries have been reported. Orange County remains under a burn ban and you will be assessed a $500.00 fine for burning.
