Marvin Walter Schatte, 63, of Bridge City, Texas was called home on August 12, 2023 with his son by his side.
Marvin was born on January 13, 1960 in Houston, Texas to Louis and Mavis Schatte. One of seven children, he prioritized family over education and entered the workforce at an early age. Driven by his desire to provide for his loved ones, Marvin embraced a tireless work ethic through which he was able to exceed even his own expectations. His reputation as honest, reliable and hardworking was solidified through his work as a first responder in the aftermath of Hurricane Rita. His impact on the community made Appliance Pro a household name that continues to be trusted across the Golden Triangle and SWLA.
Merv knew how to let loose as well. Once (often twice) a year you could find him in a tube on the Comal – a cherished family tradition that will be carried on. It really was his favorite place in the world.
Marvin was a master craftsmen who could build just about anything, though his smokehouse was arguably his most impressive work. It didn’t hurt that he knew a thing or two about air flow and appliances, either. Self-engineered and built from scratch, this is where his culinary genius was put on full display. The man made bacon that pigs would line up for! He also loved his car, and all there is to say here is “WOOOWEE.” Marvin always put others before himself and his reach extended far beyond his family. A more devoted father and “Popsy” you could not find. No better role model for the long list of you that knew him simply as “Pops.” He’d go out of his way to get a good prank in, and somehow he was never wrong?! His quick wit and relentless humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him. And to know him was to love him. A huge void has been left in the hearts of many, but his positive impact on the lives of those around him will remain.
Marvin is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Mavis Schatte, brothers Gary, Donnie and Kenny Schatte, sister Paula Keck, nephew Terry Keck, Jr., granddaughter Audrey Renee Schatte, and life-long friend, Mikey Anderson.
He is survived by his children, Cody Schatte and wife Jordyn, Logan Schatte and fiancé Randi, and their mother, Joy Peach, grandchildren and apples of his eye, Kameryn and Parker Schatte, brother Paul Wayne Schatte and wife Linda, sister Shiela Ferguson, sister-in-law Laura Schatte, nephew David Keck and wife Susan, his ‘Pahtna’ Anthony Costello, his ‘Mijo’ Rudy Reyes, many nieces and nephews, and a wealth of family and friends too numerous to list.
The family welcomes all to join them in honoring their dad. A Celebration of Life will be held in the fall with details to follow.
