Calls To Services (July 3, 2023, to July 9, 2023): The Newton County Sheriff’s Office (NCSO) answered 82 calls to service.
Jail Transports:
NCSO made 10 transports. 1 transport from Calcasieu Parish to NCSO, 2 transports from JCSO to NCSO, 2 transports from NCSO to Hardin Count, 1 transport from NCSO to Burke Center, 1 transport from Hardin County to NCSO, 1 transport from San Jacinto County to NCSO, 1 transport from NCSO to San Jacinto County, 1 transport from NCSO to JCSO.

Press Release Drug Arrests: On July 7, 2023,Deputy Nash and K9 Bruce conducted a
traffic stop on a grey ford ranger in Bon Wier, Hwy 190 near FM 1416 on July 7, 2012. The
driver identified as Shawn Love (48 YOA), and a passenger, Le Roy Lewis (44 YOA) were
both arrested for possession of controlled substance. Curtis Shawn Love bond is set and was
charged with the following offenses:
F3 – Poss CS Pg 1/1-B >=1G, Bond $7,500
F3 – 4G Poss CS Pg 1/1-B >=1G, 4G, Bond $7,500
FS – Poss CS Pg 1/1-B >1G, $5,000
MB – Poss Marij < 20z, $1,000
The passenger, Lee Roy Lewis was charged with Poss CS PG 1/1-B < 1G, his bond was set at $5,000, and he has since bonded out. Love is still in custody in the Newton County Jail. This is an active investigation.

Recovered Two Stolen Tractors:
On Sunday, July 10, 2023, at approximately 1130 hours, Deputies received a report of two stolen tractors and trailer in the vicinity of CR 2349 and CR 3035. After Deputies arrived on the scene, they located one of the stolen tractors on a nearby property. Permission was obtained from the owner and one of the stolen tractors was recovered and returned to the rightful owner. Further investigation into this incident Deputies were able to locate the other stolen tractor a Kubota L3010. Currently, it is not reported as stolen. This is an active investigation, and we expect to be filing charges on the individuals responsible for this theft. We are asking the public’s help to identify the owner of this tractor to allow its prompt return.
