UPDATE 7am – Power restored to MacArthur Drive
Approximately 544 Entergy customers are without power as of midnight after a one vehicle accident near the intersection of 16th St. and Main Street near Roberts Ford.
Orange Police believe after their initial investigation, that an elderly woman had some type of medical issue while driving her Toyota SUV southbound on 16th St. Several witnesses said she was driving at a high rate of speed and running the red lights on 16th. She went through the intersection at Green Ave., struck a utility pole and the vehicle landed on its side.
The Lions Club Carnival was winding down when the power went out. One of the Lions said it cleared out the rest of the patrons quickly after the fireworks show when she hit the pole.
The woman was conscious and she was talking to first responders as they were cutting her out of the vehicle. She was taken to the hospital to be checked out.
Entergy was called and was at the scene before the accident was cleared. Orange Fire and Entergy also had to deal with a downed power line that was burning the ground over on 15th Street. Residents in the downtown area as well as residents/businesses down MacArthur Dr. and south 16th St. to Park were without power when this story was posted.
